The College of Design of Chung Yuan Christian University was established in 1992, taking the lead to become the first design college in Taiwan.
While upholding the aim of the “holistic education” of Chung Yuan Christian University, the PhD Program covers four major areas of study including architecture, interior design, commercial design and cultural heritage studies.
The Program aims to reconcile the essence of nature and the development of the built environment by respecting both the natural environment and the humanity of mankind, and to underpin design technology with academic ideologies.
Based on the trends of sustainable development, the intention of providing opportunities for interdisciplinary research by bridging across various disciplines among academic fields was embodied by the former Design Research Institute and awarded the degree of PhD in Design. In 2007, this program was reorganized as PhD Program in Design by the College of Design.
